Bilingual art workshops in Burlington, guided in English and Spanish. These are small, unhurried sessions — a chance to slow down, learn something about Hispanic culture, pick up or practise a bit of Spanish, and connect with the people around you and with yourself. No art experience or Spanish needed, just curiosity.

Your guide for the afternoon is Alana Lumi, a Latin American illustrator who loves sharing the calm and joy of pattern-based art. She'll walk you through every step, in both languages.

Each series is led by an independent local artist who brings their own world to the ART & Español method.
Currently led by Alana Lumi / Por ahora con Alana Lumi: Our current series is facilitated by illustrator Alana Lumi. Each session is a contemporary take on the visual traditions of the Americas. You’ll work with ink and pattern drawing to fill a different motif from across the continent (a hummingbird, a monarch butterfly, an Andean bear), each one a doorway into the cultures and ecology of the continent. The slow, repetitive mark-making is what makes it meditative. Her practice explores the visual languages of the Americas and contemporary illustration, with a Latin American sensibility open to influences from around the world.
Cada serie está guiada por un artista local independiente que trae su propio mundo al método ART & Español.
Nuestra serie actual está facilitada por la ilustradora Alana Lumi. Cada sesión es una mirada contemporánea a las tradiciones visuales del continente americano. Trabajarás con tinta y dibujo de patrones para rellenar un motivo distinto del continente (un colibrí, una mariposa monarca, un oso de anteojos), en donde cada uno es una puerta de entrada a las culturas y la ecología del continente. El trazo lento y repetitivo es lo que lo hace meditativo. Su práctica explora los lenguajes visuales del continente americano y la ilustración contemporánea, con una sensibilidad latinoamericana abierta a influencias de todo el mundo.
